What ISPM 15 Actually Means
ISPM 15 is the international phytosanitary standard for wood packaging material used in global trade. Its purpose is simple: stop wood-boring pests from traveling between countries inside pallets and crates. The standard requires solid wood packaging to be debarked, treated by an approved method, and marked with the official IPPC stamp .
The most common treatment is heat treatment (HT), where the wood core reaches a minimum of 56°C for at least 30 continuous minutes . Once treated and marked, the pallet is compliant for its entire service life. It does not expire, and it can be reused and re-exported multiple times, provided the mark remains legible .
Why Certification Fails in Practice
Most non-compliance issues are not deliberate. They happen because of gaps in the supply chain:
Marks are illegible or damaged. The IPPC stamp must be clearly visible on at least two opposite sides of the pallet. A worn or painted-over mark is treated as non-compliant .
Treatment was never done. Some suppliers sell untreated pallets as “export-ready” without the facility or certification to back it up.
Repaired pallets lose their status. If a pallet is repaired or remanufactured, it must be re-treated and re-marked. Old marks must be obliterated .
Wrong treatment used. Methyl bromide (MB) is being phased out in many regions. Heat treatment is the safer, more widely accepted choice .

We operate advanced in-house heat treatment facilities at our Sharjah workshop . Every pallet designated for export goes through a controlled process:
Debarking and inspection – Wood is checked and prepared to the standard’s requirements.
Core temperature treatment – The wood is heated to 56°C for 30 continuous minutes throughout the entire profile .
Official stamping – Each pallet receives a permanent IPPC mark with the UAE country code, our facility number, and the “HT” treatment code .
Final verification – Marks are inspected for legibility before dispatch.
